S.A.Technology has designed and built a set of tools that will be used to facilitate the removal of grout from the trench and sump area of B-cell in building 324 of the Hanfords 300 area. This set of tools has been designed to effectively clean and remove all grout in a safe and efficient manor. The equipment that S.A.Technology offers includes a tool rack that is equipped with a powerful triple stage HEPA filtration vacuum that can attach to any of the tools to minimize debris and clean up grout that is broken up by the tools.
Listed below are the tools and their functions:
- The bushing tool is an air chisel with a bushing head that is attached to a weighted crane mount. This tool acts as a jack hammer, with an end effector that is similar in shape to a meat tenderizer. This end effector successfully breaks up grout without puncturing the stainless steel lining of the cell.
- The needle scaler tool is a pneumatic scaler that fires hardened needles at a rate of approximately 5000 blows per minute. The needles are used for surface preparation and are perfect for removing small sections of concrete on the trench and sump walls.
- The wire brush tool is a pneumatic drill that operates at approximately 10,000 rpm. Attached to the drill is a half-sphere shaped wire brush head; this shape allows the drill to reach radial corners of the trench and sump, and it works well on the walls and floor of the trench and sump.
- The vacuum head tool is a solid steel vacuum tube that is mounted to the same weighted crane mount. This tool is used to vacuum particles from the base floor of the sump and trench.
